Beyond The Blue is free today in the Kindle Store

#53 in Kindle Store > Books > Literature & Fiction > Genre Fiction > Family Life

BEYOND THE BLUE is a coming of age novella. 12 year old Anthony Breckenheimer is a clever boy with blue eyes, red hair and like his father he is a little on the chubby side. He lives in the big City of Toronto with his mother, his little brother Ronald and his little sister Leona. His father died a year ago and Anthony misses him greatly especially when he is confronted by bullies on his way to and from school; the biggest and baddest one being Jerry Hasselbergen. One day while in his classroom Anthony discovers a magical window. What he sees through this window and beyond the blue changes his life forever.

From the Author

BEYOND THE BLUE  is a story that takes place in a Toronto neighbourhood way back in the 1950's.   I actually remember those days well.  Bullying was a problem then, as it is today, although to a lesser degree in that in those days it was rare that weapons be used or that drugs be involved.

Yes, it was more innocent but, make no mistake, for the child being bullied it was a harrowing experience.   "Enigami" is the message beyond the blue but what on earth can that possibly mean?

This coming-of-age story is one I believe many young children will find believable and inspiring.   I hope you will enjoy it too.

Beyond The Blue is free today in the Kindle Store.

This book is also available in both Kindle and Paperback formats on all Amazon sites.  It is also available from Createspace.com in paperback format.  The link is  CreateSpace eStore: https://www.createspace.com/4895004

Short story -- Hope of Glory is free today in the Kindle Store on all Amazon sites

Their father died and mom needed to work. To her young son she insisted, "hold her hand, Lester." And hold his sister's hand he did. They reached a certain age and a role reversal took place. Now it was sister, Linda, keeping her eye on her big brother who was heading in the wrong direction. Later, on his death bed, Lester is convinced there is no hope of glory for him. Little does he know of his sister's love and the power of prayer.

When writing Hope of Glory I thought of my own childhood and of my brother who, at a young age, became father figure to myself and my younger siblings. Fortunately for our family my brother did not take a wrong path but it is easy to understand how a young man might make some wrong choices given such heavy responsibility at too early an age.

In addition there have been many times throughout my life when I've been assured that the power of prayer is a force to be reckoned with.  These are some of the influences which impacted on my writing of this short story.  I hope you enjoy it.

Hope of Glory  is a short story that dares to stand alone and it is free today in the Kindle Store on all Amazon sites.

And you will find this story, along with eleven others, in short story anthology titled Social Studies, Book One - Dying to Be Popular  which is available in both Kindle and Paperback formats on all Amazon sites.

Ellen and The Hummingtree is free today in the Kindle Store

Ellen and The Hummingtree makes a great Mother's Day gift.

Ellen is a woman I came to know well during the writing of my third novel Ellen and The Hummingtree.    She often puzzled me yet she also had the ability to make me laugh and cry.  I grew to love her.  And the more I came to know her I began to realize that she truly is a composite of the many caring spiritual women I have known throughout my life.  Alzheimer is a dreadful disease and Ellen's victimization is a heartbreak.  My writing of Ellen and The Hummingtree comes straight from the heart.  I hope you will love her as I do.

Ellen and The Hummingtree is free for your reading pleasure today in the Kindle Store.

Books - I love them; reading and writing

I just want to say thank you to everyone who has enjoyed reading any one of my books.  Creative writing is my absolute pleasure.

This summer I will celebrate my eighth writing anniversary.    I was unable to devote my time to creative writing prior to leaving my day jobs.   I've never worked harder than I do now in so-called retirement.   I am currently working on a memoir titled, All Them Houses which will be number nineteen, and also on a novel titled, On The Radio. which will mark my twentieth publication.

My books are available exclusively from Amazon, both Kindle and Paperback; and from Createspace.com in paperback format.

My books seem to be most popular in North America but there have been some sales in England, Europe and Australia.   Keeping It Simple  has even found a few new homes in India.  It seems that one of my books has gotten off on the wrong foot in England, however, I'm pleased to see that one of my short stories, While You Were Sleeping,  is being well received there.

If there was a race between the Kindle and the Paperback formats, I would need to declare the Kindles the winner.

I, personally, am on the old-fashioned side and my preference remains to hold a real book in my hand.  But lately I've been thinking about checking it out, and buying myself a Kindle Reader.   Today's technology is wonderful!

I find it most remarkable that, with today's technology, my books can be made available throughout the world.   As a child growing up, this phenomenon was beyond my imagination, though I am told I have a pretty good one.

I have always been an eclectic reader.   I have always lived my life in an eclectic fashion; so it is not surprising that my books also are an eclectic reflection of my thoughts, ideas and imagination.   I am not locked into one genre.

It would be unrealistic of me to hope that you will enjoy everything I write, but if one or more of my books has pleased you, then my mission is accomplished and I feel overjoyed.  Thank you.

Here are a few of the books not on the above book shelf.  Not all, but most, of my book covers are designed and created by Susan Ruby Krupp.

She is an amazing talent and I highly recommend her to any author seeking a cover for his book.

In a marriage for more years than she can even remember, Francesca is frustrated by her husband who spends his day sitting in the lezyboy chair watching old classic movies. Her frustration is fulfilled when she tosses the remote and hits him upside the head. Little does she know that this temper tantrum will change her life forever.

    From the Author

How often do couples argue?  How often do their fights become physical?  How often do the parties say, I didn't mean to do it?   This is exactly what happens in this story.  Married for many years they have grown bored with each other.  He is in love with the women in his classic movies.  She has given up hope of romance and deals daily with her frustration.  Both have let themselves go and when she throws the remote at him it is just another incident in their saga of anger and monotony.  When she is arrested, she can't believe it.  They will soon release her and send her home.  Or will they?

Francesca's Confession is one of my short stories that dares to stand alone.   It is also found, however, as one of twelve stories in short story anthology titled Social Studies, Book Two - Shattered and Broken which is available in both Kindle and Paperback formats on all Amazon sites.

At The Edge of His World -- a short story for children free today in the Kindle Store

AT THE EDGE OF HIS WORLD is a story written for children. Gerald is a chipmunk who quite enjoys living inside the garden wall. One day a big loud tractor arrives and the men start tearing down the wall. Oh dear! Whatever will Gerald do to save his home?

AT THE EDGE OF HIS WORLD is a short story for children.  I was inspired to write this story when my own stone garden retaining wall was being demolished and a new more modern and stable one was being constructed.  My own chipmunk was frantic and I felt very sorry that we were, of necessity, destroying his home.  It was either take the wall down or wait a while longer while it fell down of its own accord.  I was also very relieved once my new wall was built to see the little fellow under the Forsythia bush near a small hole in the ground which I knew was his brand new entrance into his new home ........ so this is a short fictional story for children based on this author's true experience.

I hope your children enjoy the story and I hope you do too.

Other stories I've written for children include The Last Drop for the very young and Beyond The Blue, a novella for school-aged children.

    Simply BE

I am very pleased with the copies of Simply BE which arrived this morning.   Who would ever believe that I would illustrate a book?    I live surrounded by artists, yet I have always said I can't draw a straight line.   And recently I have been experimenting and it seems to be true that, without a ruler, I definitely cannot draw a straight line.

Yes, to illustrate this book was something that was important to me.  And so I did it!

"Sometimes we forget that we are born into this world as human beings.
We forget because too much of the time is spent as human do'ers.
We do this; we do that; and then we do some more.
Sometimes we become involved in doing so much we forget who we are.

Simply BE is a reminder to all of us that it is possible to be who we really are."

Austin has written a not so simple story, weaving the lives of multiple residents on Moose Road around one tragic accident that leaves no one on the road or in the nearby Northern Ontario Canada town untouched. The subplots tug at our desire to comfort some residents of this town with a hug and those same subplots yank at our exasperation switch yelling at us to slap sense into some of these same people. The main story cries for our attention and gets it.

Austin is able to show us one tragedy from every point of view except the moose. The characters are so real that I wonder what Austin's neighbors thought about having their secret lives dragged into the public view. I started this book just to have something to read in between my own chores. However... to heck with the chores, I finished the book in one sitting.

I had not read the description before I purchased it...the title and cover just appealed to me. I loved it!!! I did not see the ending coming and was totally blown away! Great job!!

WEAVING ALICE is a story about a meeting on earth between personified good and evil. The mystical ending will bring a smile to your face.

Imagine if you will a mystical, magical gift of tapestry creation powerful enough to eradicate the evil in our world.   This is the gift that Alice possesses.   Good versus evil told in an attention-holding manner.  I had a lot of pleasure writing this suspenseful story and I hope you will enjoy it; especially the surprise ending.

The Second Self - a short story free in the Kindle Store

The Second Self was free today in the Kindle Store. Currently #8 in Kindle Store > Kindle eBooks > Health, Fitness & Dieting > Psychology & Counseling > Social Psychology & Interactions

THE SECOND SELF is a short story about one boy's endurance of extreme abuse at the hands of someone well-respected in the community. So extreme the sexual, emotional abuse that the young boy develops another personality. This short story is not intended for young people to read. It is my hope that this story and others like it will raise the awareness in communities across the country and, indeed, around our world that a child abuser is often an individual that no one would ever suspect. Unfortunately these people do not wear a warning sign on their back.

This story was difficult to write. I wanted to be explicit in order for the reader to feel even a tiny fraction of the horror that this child endured. Although this is a fictional story, in life it is true that more often than not the child abuser is someone who holds a position of trust; someone the child believes would be safe be it a teacher, a minister, a neighbor or, as in this case, a close relative.

For short story lovers, just to let you know that The Second Self is also one of a dozen short stories found in one of my short story anthologies titled Social Studies, Book Two - Shattered and Broken which is available in both Kindle and Paperback formats.

My Irish Connection. Happy St. Patrick's Day!

    HAPPY ST. PATRICK'S DAY!

One of my ancestors, Richard Dawson, of Monghan County, Ireland is my Irish connection.

The Dawson family who came to the area in the 17th century has been the main benefactor of the parish ever since. It was Richard Dawson, a banker and Dublin alderman, who in 1729 built the present (Church of Ireland) church on the Dartrey estate. It was established in its own separate parish of Ematris soon after. The Dawsons added a north gallery to the church in 1769, and much later the Corry family (from Rockcorry) added a south gallery, raised on arches to avoid desecrating the burial ground beneath it. A fire caused serious damaged in 1811 leaving the church for a period without a roof. The fine west tower was built in 1840, and the sanctuary apse (centre above) in 1870. With the demolition of the Dawson mansion in 1950, and their once thriving estate turned over to forestry, St John’s appears isolated. However it shares services with St James’ church, Rockcorry some 2½ miles away, which the Dawsons built in 1855, and both churches continue well supported by the local farming community. But the view from St John’s cemetery across Inner Lough, once described as “one of the best in Ireland”, is currently obscured by conifers:

I still hope to get to Ireland one day to see the Dawson Monument.

It Really is Possible to Heal
     Mary Belanger

This  very well written manual  is by Audrey Austin; a wonderful therapist, author, and teacher.

This book is written in a  sequential manner.  A reader is given a methodical overview of meditation, psychospiritual therapy, and the chakra system.  Learning to open  blocked chakras enables the reader to unite mind, body, and soul.

I am very grateful for Austin who has created such a wonderful resource on chakra meditation.
It really is possible to heal. Keeping it Simple has my Five Star rating. It has changed my life for the better.

A very easy-to-understand explanation of chakras

    By Anu

This is a well written book - very easy to understand the concept of chakras and the significance of each chakra. I am yet to try out the exercises for opening up each chakra. But if you are looking to familiarize yourself with the 7 chakras of the Indian/yogic tradition, I highly recommend this book.
