Joshua's Journey .... a short story by Audrey Austin

Joshua is an old man who lives in his room in a nursing home. He tells his story in a matter of fact way with no apology. He has experienced his share of difficulties and life has left him angry and bitter. He is unprepared for his meeting with Victoria. Because of his encounter with this little girl, Joshua makes the decision to do the right thing.  His action is his gift to himself on his birthday.

From the Author:

I've sometimes had occasion to meet an elderly person who is quite angry and bitter about life.  I tend to feel sorry for such a person and I confess I wonder what has happened in his earlier years to make him this unhappy and cantankerous in old age.  These were the thoughts and the questions in my mind when I wrote the short story, Joshua's Journey.

Keeping It Simple - Imagine Being Whole

By special request of some of our Centre’s students I put together some rough notes and this teaching material was utilized in class.
Since offering the Meditation Circles at Holy Trinity United Church and also the Emotional Healing Classes through Learning in Retirement in Elliot Lake, I have received requests for a book on the topic of self-discovery and personal growth. These requests have encouraged me to get to work and expand on my earlier rough notes to create this book: Keeping it Simple
It is my highest hope that you, the reader, will find it a useful guide as you continue your journey along the path of self-discovery and personal growth.

BASE CHAKRA is located at the base of the spine. This energy centre is your survival centre, your connection to the earth, your human-ness. When we think of the base chakra we associate it with the colour red.

SACRAL CHAKRA is located below the navel. This energy centre is the centre of all desire; physical, emotional, mental and spiritual. When we think of the sacral chakra we associate it with the colour orange.

SOLAR PLEXUS CHAKRA is located just above the navel and below the breast. This energy centre is the centre of will, determination and perseverance. When we think of the solar plexus chakra we associate it with the colour yellow.

HEART CHAKRA is located between the breast bone and the neck. This energy centre is the centre of unconditional love; love of self and others. A fond reference to the heart chakra is, “the place where heaven and earth meet.”
This fond reference is used because the base, sacral and solar plexus chakras are all energy centres associated with our human-ness whereas the next three chakras are considered centres of a spiritual nature. When we think of the heart chakra we associate with it the colours pink or green.

THROAT CHAKRA is located in the area of the throat. This energy centre is the centre of all forms of communication and creativity. When we think of the throat chakra we associate with it the colour blue.

BROW CHAKRA is located in the centre of the forehead. This energy centre is the centre of our understanding. When we think of the brow chakra we associate with it the colour indigo.

CROWN CHAKRA is located in the top centre of the head. This energy centre is the connection to your higher self and to your Higher Power. When we think of the crown chakra we associate with it the colour purple or white

Moose Road, a Canadian Tragedy

Some reviews of Moose Road, a Canadian Tragedy

Review

Moose Road - a Canadian Tragedy has received its first review. I'm thrilled to share it with you.

"I grabbed your book and headed for bed. This was about 7:30.
I turned out the light just after midnight.
I couldn't put it down!
... Your characters are so real and believable! I absolutely fell in love with the Road, and Santo's dad, Arthur broke my heart and I think we all know someone a little...
like Eunice...
Just wonderful!
I liked how you interjected the Road's thoughts midway, and I liked the ending!
The story is riveting. I felt like I knew these people!"   Susan Ruby K.

A review by Lucy AnnSpence:
"WOW !!! Just finished reading this fabulous book...Audrey, you have a winner here...thoroughly enjoyed it and held
my attention right to the end...."

Moose Road is an exciting story and the characters living on the same road were all so down to earth, and it is a story you will not want to put down
until you have finished reading it as I know I couldn't. There has been a lot of research put into this story and the author is to be commended on her
great work.  Eleanor Lambert.

This review is from: Moose Road a Canadian Tragedy (Kindle Edition)
I give four stars for a really good story.
Who is to blame for the Moose Road Tragedy? Can Moose Road itself tell us?
Listen to the seven families as they give their accounts for what happened.
Do they blame each other? What conclusions do the insurance investigators draw?
Who does the judge blame? And why is murder committed after the enquiry?
To find out, you have to read, Moose Road.
It is a really good story.

From the Author

2012 was spent writing Moose Road - a Canadian Tragedy.   Here in my home town of Elliot Lake, Ontario, Canada we had recently suffered great losses due to a mall collapse which killed two people, injured others, and of course deprived many of their jobs and businesses.

Moose Road is not about this mall collapse however my frame of mind while writing this story was influenced by all that was going on around me.   And, of course, an Inquiry was happening here in the real world.I realized the importance to many of placing blame for what had occurred.

This was the bedrock of Moose Road - a Canadian Tragedy.  My thought was what if no one is to blame?  What if it were an accident.  And, indeed, on Moose Road there is the accident between the snow plow and the school bus. There is an investigation; an inquiry; and judgment is made.   But what happens once this decision is made by the Judge is what shocks the small Town of Mansey and fills headlines across the nation.

I put my heart and soul into the characters who live along Moose Road.  They became very real to me and I sometimes had a hard time keeping up with them.

I hope you enjoy the story.
