Poetry from A to Z -- an excerpt

Poetry from A to Z  - an excerpt

THE NOSE

(previously published
Verse Afire - The Ontario Poetry Society)

Daring to lead into worlds unknown
Sticking itself into business not mine
Keeping me safe by smelling a rat
Drawing me near to fragrance of calm
While eyes dance and stare
And mouth smiles or glares
The nose keeps its dignity
Always the leader
Accepting its role
so I never lose face
While feet need to pace
And thumbs need to twiddle
And heart runs a race
The nose keeps its place
Front row and centre
Always aware of its duty
And deeds
Often ignored
the lonely nose
Bleeds
Through its passage we breathe
So with tissue be gentle
Avoid those cold germs
Nose does not like to sniffle
Be proud of a prominent nose
Always remember the nose knows.

WANTING

Shoulders slump in silence
Eyes burn
like toast on a workless morning
Hand scratching head
Children still in bed
Will want breakfast when they waken
Wanting
Haunting

WEARY

(Previously published
Ultra Best Short Verse - TOPS)

Weary woman worries when
The door is shut
On hope that drowns
In white envelopes
Piling up on table
Demanding satisfaction
Threatening to kill the little faith
That barely floats above the stack.
