Moose Road, a Canadian Tragedy - an Excerpt

Moose Road, a Canadian Tragedy -- an excerpt (from Chapter 9)

"Two months have slipped past since the collision but I remember that it was a blustery winter day.  The wind was whipping the snow into drifts along the edges of my shoulders. So much of me was covered with snow that I wasn't sure where I stopped and where I started.  I was not centred.  I am a strong road but this day I was overwhelmed.  It was just too much wickedness for me.  I was overwhelmed by too much snow and too much ice.  I was very slippery that day and the weight of the snow banks increased on my sagging old shoulders.

It's painful to recall but I can still see the young, wet blood that stained me.  I will always remember the heavy shock of the school bus as it slammed onto its side and slid, out of control, along my back until its slide was stopped by a tall, white snow bank.  I can still hear the voice of Tom Laroque as he shouted, "Oh, my God!" just before his body went flying from his vehicle through the frigid air to a landing spot in a small, soft mountain of snow.

There were six children on the bus that was driven by Luke Carson that day."
