Established in Cobalt in 1970, the Spring Pulse Poetry Festival has been successfull in ensuring that the memory of Dr. Drummond, the 19th century’s most popular and successfull poet has been kept alive.
We wish to Congratulate all the individual winners of the 2011 Drummond Poetry Contest. This year’s contest saw entries from right across Canada and our judge Bianca Lakoseljac from Toronto found her task most challenging. An excerpt of an email concludes: “. I’ve taken on the impossible task. We have 149 poems, and we could easily give away that many prizes. The poems are so good, sooo good...This is definitely is the year of poetry!!!”
The committee wishes to congratulate all of the poets who made this competition so competitive.
Further we wish to express appreciation to the following poetry organizations whose members participated and won specifically; The League of Canadian Poets, Ontario Poetry Society, Canadian Federation of Poets, Canadian Authors Association, and the Stroll of Poets Edmonton.
The committee would especially wish to recognize the following local poets; Poet Laureate Ann Margetson, of Cobalt Lorne Larocque of Kirkland Lake, Don Bennet of Haileybury, and Barbara Irvine of New Liskeard. These poets all excelled in competition with poets from across Canada. The first place winning poet was Greg Laurenceson of Elliot Lake also from Northern Ontario.
