Characters are down to earth and brought alive in Moose Road but perhaps the one whose story most touches the heart is that of the road itself.

Facebook "Likes"

Thank you Carol Hilliard for "liking" my short story FB Page. You are the 100th person to do so and I appreciate it.

Thanks to everyone who takes a moment to "like" one, two or all of my FB pages. Yes, I have a lot of them.

I have a separate page for each one of my books; and I have a page for my short stories; and then I have another FB author's page; all in addition to my timeline.

It may not seem like much to you unless of course you are also a writer. And if you are also a writer you know it means a lot just to know that someone has listened, if only for a moment; that someone has cared about what you are about and they have taken the time to say, "yes, I like this."

Creative writing is a solitary passion. One needs, of necessity, to be alone in order to write.

So thanks Carol and thanks to everyone for letting me and also other authors know we are supported and encouraged in our creative writing simply by clicking on a page's "like".

Abundance - a short story & excerpt from Ellen and The Hummingtree

Tomorrow (Wednesday) one of my Kindle short stories - Abundance - will be free on all Amazon sites.

ABUNDANCE is a short story. It is also an excerpt from one of my novels titled "Ellen and The Hummingtree". In this story Ellen is struggling both financially and emotionally. She is even feeling that her spiritual strength is in jeopardy. Then along comes a great gift in the person of Jethro Tunkel who arrives at Ellen's back gate with his knapsack on his back and his guitar slung over his shoulder.

Enjoyment of this short story will lead you to want to read "Ellen and The Hummingtree", a novel which is a fictional memoir of a woman of faith.

Ellen and The Hummingtree is available in both Kindle & Paperback Editions.

I have been kept busy getting my Kindle novellas into paperback format. Now that I have caught up on all Paperback publications for the time being I am ready to get back to work on my next book which is titled ORCHARD 7410. This is one I have needed to sort of build up to. My writing to date has brought me to the point where I feel it is time to write this story. I have needed to gather the confidence in order to do this writing which will be very close to my heart -- and this is one story that will be keeping me busy throughout the upcoming winter months

REAWAKENING

REAWAKENING is free today on Amazon.

Reawakening is a novel that reveals itself in a place called Notsew. Here is a story that takes the reader on a journey, along with the story's characters, far from earth. In this place called Notsew the powers that be have great curiosity. They want to learn more about why human beings do the things they do and mostly they want to learn about some strange phenomena best described as emotion. The story's characters find themselves unwilling participants in an experiment.

I dedicated this story to my dear sister, Muriel, because she just loved it. Of all the things I had written this was her favourite. And though my sister is now also far from earth the love we shared continues to make me feel as close to her as ever.

Although I didn't know it at the time I wrote Reawakening, I believe there were greater forces at work. Why do I think this? Because the love my sister & I continue to share is the kind of love shared by the characters in this story. Nothing and no one - not even death - can lessen the power of love.

REAWAKENING is available in Kindle Format on all Amazon sites.

I have a few copies of the paperback edition on hand here at home. If you wish to buy a copy just message or email me at audrey@persona.ca

Sunny Side Up by Kathryn Elizabeth Jones

Watch for Sunny Side Up  coming soon on all Amazon sites.

Sunny Side-Up will be available for purchase at Amazon in October.

Excerpt from Sunny Side Up by Kathryn Elizabeth Jones.

The old man wore a black suit, a starched white shirt and a black bow tie, the standard fare for men of his age. They were both on a cruise ship, and though she didn't really know him, they’d been speaking. At least, she'd been speaking. The man was drunk and could hardly stand; he'd kept asking her to repeat herself.
She'd been speaking about her divorce and subsequent trip when his blue-gray eyes had clouded over and he'd collapsed in a heap in front of her.
She'd reached for him, of course. But his body had slipped through her fingers like a fish in shallow water.  He'd tried to breathe, taking in two shallow gasps. But he was lying there now, his blistered face to the sky, his eyes staring, his left leg bent behind him in some sort of twisted leap. He was dead, Susan was sure of that.
“Help!” she screamed, watching the dance floor for someone, anyone...
And then suddenly, she was there, an old woman in a gold dress, her bronzed skin twinkling against the burnished fabric. She leaned over the man.
“What happened?” the old woman's voice quivered. It reminded Susan of a child’s.
As the salty air caressed Susan's cheeks, she looked out at the great blue ocean for only a moment and thought of Henry.
“I…I don’t know, we were just talking.”
The woman in gold, her hair perfectly coiffed, reached for the man’s wrist. And in that moment Susan saw Henry James as John Middleton, lying dead by the old coal burning stove at the Hotel Camaro.
The woman was sobbing, leaning over the man, trying to shake him awake.
“What did you do?” she wailed. Her eyes were a blotchy black and mascara was running down her naked neck.
            Susan looked away.
The champagne glass near the deck’s railing had spilled. The place where it lodged was a red and sticky, wet.
            “I can’t wake him!”
The waves must have crashed against the large cruise ship, but Susan hardly noticed; she barely saw those who had suddenly gathered around her including the face of Charles, one of the officers on board ship. He pronounced the man dead.
“But, how can he be…dead?” the old woman gasped, holding her chest, breathing in the sea air in shuddering gasps.
Susan stood next to the railing. She looked out at the sea and wasn't sure when the old man was taken away with his sobbing wife. How had she gotten to the railing anyway? Why was the man dead? And just as important, who had killed him?

Thank you for your positive reviews :-)

Quite recently my first baby, Sara, a Canadian Saga, received a couple of not so positive book reviews. This is okay. It would be unrealistic of me to think that every person who reads my books will love them. All constructive reviews are helpful.

But when I received another positive review as I did recently from one of my UK readers I was absolutely thrilled.

Positive reviews mean the world to a writer whether they be on Amazon or on Goodreads.

Thank you to each reader who takes the time to say a few words in either of these sites if a story has been enjoyed. I appreciate it very much.

Here is the recent review that has made my day.

When I put together the pages of Keeping It Simple my thought was that if this book helps one person in this chaotic world I will feel I have accomplished a job well done. I was unprepared for the number of people who have come to me and told me that the reading of this book for them has been positively life-changing. For this I am happy and I am grateful.

Recompense

It is free today and Recompense is off to a good start in the Kindle Store. #55 in Kindle Store > Kindle eBooks > Health, Fitness & Dieting > Relationships > Love & Romance

Bringing two worlds together was my goal in bringing together Maurice from Salt River, Capetown, South Africa and Alison, a postal clerk in High River, Alberta, Canada. Cultures blend but passion is lacking. I thought of these two people living together as a couple; not too unlike many couples who live together for years in unsatisfactory boring relationships. Then I thought what if, when they reach their senior years, something happens to wake them up? That's when I decided to introduce Conrad and the Senior Befriender Chatroom.

Writing "RECOMPENSE' was an enjoyable challenge. Most of us are unused to reading about senior men and women in romantic situations .......... I thought maybe it is time that I write something that will make us see our elders through new eyes.

My 7th Anniversary as a writer :-)

This weekend I am celebrating my 7th anniversary as a creative writer.

It's hard to believe that it is now seven years since I've retired from one working world and joined another; the creative writing world. Throughout these seven years I've been busy. Here is a photo of just some of my work found in my books and also found in other publications.

I enjoy writing poetry; short stories for adults and for children; novellas; novels and even the occasional book of self-discovery.  This year I even wrote my first song lyrics.   My primary focus is on contemporary social issues.

You will find my books on all Amazon sites. They are all in Kindle format and several of them in print format. Visit my author's page at http://www.amazon.com/author/audreyaustin

My next offering will be Crabapple Court with a planned launch in the fall of this year. Special thanks to Susan at http://yuneekpix.com/ for the wonderful book cover designs.

Much thanks and appreciation to my readers and to my reviewers. To mark my anniversary weekend I am offering free on Saturday the Kindle edtion of my novella titled Recompense and on Sunday the Kindle edition of my book of self-discovery titled Keeping It Simple which celebrates the trinity of meditation, the seven major chakras and psychospiritual therapy.

Thanks to the support and encouragement of my reading friends in Elliot Lake who have never let me down.

Special thanks to Mags at Wynterblue Publishing Canada. None of this would have happened without her support and encouragement. Be well soon my friend. Here's to the next seven years!
