In the Kindle Store today my short story titled The Second Self is currently #4 in Kindle Store > Kindle eBooks > Health, Fitness & Dieting > Psychology & Counseling > Social Psychology & Interactions
THE SECOND SELF is a short story about one boy's endurance of extreme abuse at the hands of someone well-respected in the community. So extreme the sexual, emotional abuse that the young boy develops another personality. This short story is not intended for young people to read. It is my hope that this story and others like it will raise the awareness in communities across the country and, indeed, around our world that a child abuser is often an individual that no one would ever suspect. Unfortunately these people do not wear a warning sign on their back.
From the Author
This short story was difficult to write. I wanted to be explicit in order for the reader to feel even a tiny fraction of the horror that this child endured. Although this is a fictional story, in life it is true that more often than not the child abuser is someone who holds a position of trust; someone the child believes would be safe be it a teacher, a minister, a neighbor or, as in this case, a close relative.
