On Mental Pain
by Shirley Green
The pain?
Insane.
Though I remain with tearstained face within this place,
this world of pain
they cannot tame,
I am inside.
Alive, alive
inside this shell I walk beside
as further into fear I slide.
There is no love of self, or pride.
I canot see.
I do not hear
the world around me pressing near.
My mind in its forgotten place
ignoring time’s relentless pace.
