Like Wheat Sheaves in the Wind ..........

I watch the people of Egypt on TV and my mind remembers, ".....Let my people go".

And whose turn is it now?  I ask myself.

A few years ago I had a dream.  This particular dream is one that was repetitive and visited me many nights.  It contained many visions and one that stands out in my mind now is that masses of people were waving their arms in the air like wheat sheaves in the wind.

I talk a little bit about this dream  and other dreams within an old web site titled Pearls of Promise.

My prayers are with the people of Egypt.

"Walk for Memories"........Collins Hall today.

Today we will go over to the Collins Hall where the Alzheimers Society is holding the "Walk for Memories"..

We all have memories; some we classify as good and some not so good.

In my opinion even the worst memories are good because they are a part of who we are.

We have all heard the saying, "Do as I say; not as I do."

In the case of Memoir Writing, even though I am well aware of its benefits, I plead guilty to encouraging others to do as I say.

And God forbid you should ever have the illness of Alzheimer..........but just imagine, if you did, your memoirs would be invaluable to your family, friends and caregivers......and to yourself.

Everyone has a story to tell.

In October of this year Elliot Lake will be honoured by a visit from Dr. Ross Pennie who will conduct a workshop on "Memoir Writing".............I plan to attend.

But I am thinking I will make a start on this project before October.

If you are reading this post, give the idea some thought.  Maybe it is time you began to write your memoirs?

Maybe see you later today at Collins Hall where the "Walk for Memories" is taking place.

Letter from a friend ..............

I  couldn't find "Follow" so I'll make my own space to say that
your presentation is ingenius.  I more than enjoyed and
appreciated the contents, all of which are so new and original to me.

However, I also enjoyed all that followed and since i am familiar
with Elliot Lake from its bankrupt days at the start of the fifties
( I lived in the Sault then) , you are making the "desert" become
a complete "oasis"with your literary offerings.  Good for you!

I will no doubt see Maureen's copies. Keep it up.

                 Sincerely,     Neil Motchan

Thank you, Neil, and I am pleased that you are enjoying this blog.

Your wife and my dear friend, Maureen, is probably the first friend I ever made in this world.  I believe we met soon after our birth.....and that is a long time ago.

I am totally blessed to still be sharing friendship after all these years with Maureen and with our mutual friend, Marilyn.

Winter optimism........

I've often said, 'I don't like winter'.

I was thinking about my negative thought throughout today and had an epiphany which made a lie out of my assertion.

The fact is I am beginning to really enjoy winter....and not just because I got out there to make my snow angel....

I'm realizing that the cold winter winds are making me appreciate the coziness of my home and  the warmth of the people I care about.

Today I talked with and listened to friends; some with financial problems; some with relationship issues; and some with health situations that could be better.  Almost everyone has something that is of concern.

And to myself I think, yes, that's what life is about.   No one ever promised that life would be especially easy or that everything would always go the way we want it to go.

But as I am given each day I can make it a good and positive one or  I can choose to make the day a not so nice and negative one.  It really is all about choice.

It is not so much the problems or issues in life that are important....it is how we choose to deal with those issues and how we turn the problems into opportunities.

Choice and connections........For me it is true that the stronger my faith, the more I am aware of synchronicity and solutions.

Life is good........it's interesting.

I count my blessings and feel grateful to be able to share them with those I love.

As an author it is a very strange feeling to be practically out of books to sell..........but.....

Book orders are now placed for more copies of SARA which is going into its fourth printing; REAWAKENING, which is going into its second printing and THE SILENT STAR which is also going into its second printing.

I am looking forward to potential sales at the Elliot Lake Trade Show happening in April at the local arena.

And if anyone reading this post wishes to order a copy of one, two or all of my books I am only an email away and I anticipate hearing from you.

Elliot Lake Trade Show...April 29th, 30th and May 1st

Spring may seem a long way off on this cold, winter's day but we will soon be into February, the shortest month of the year, and April will not be far behind.

I very much look forward to participating in the Elliot Lake Trade Show again this year.   I will set up my display table with copies of SARA, a Canadian Saga,  REAWAKENING, and because of the positive feedback I have been receiving from readers I have decided to obtain more copies of THE SILENT STAR Plus a Dozen   from the publisher so I will have copies of three books to promote and sell this spring.

Thank you to Maggie Kirton at Wynterblue Publishing Canada for putting more books together and special thanks to Todd Stencill for providing the venue for myself and others to display their wares at the Elliot Lake Trade Show which will be happening again this spring in the local arena.

SARA will soon be for sale at Really-O Handcrafts and Tryon Museum on Prince Edward Island

I am very happy to announce that my first novel titled SARA, a Canadian Saga  will soon be offered for sale in Jack Sorensen's  shop called Really-O Handcrafts and Tryon Museum on Prince Edward Island.
The first three chapters of SARA are set in the Village of Tryon......and it is in Tryon where Sara was born.

Special thanks to Jack Sorensen, the owner of Really-O Handcrafts and Tryon Museum, for his decision to offer SARA  for sale in his shop.

I know the Island residents will love Sara because she is one of them.

The time is 1916.  Sara is a 10 year old girl living in the Village of Tryon, Prince Edward Island.  Roy is a 10 year old boy living in Springhill, Nova Scotia.Through their eyes we see, feel and experience their childhood challenges. We follow them through adolescence and their turbulent teen years.
We celebrate their courtship and suffer their lost innocence in the marriage ritual.  They take us through the Great Depression and share with us the frustrations, dreams and challenges they face in adulthood.  The Great Depression breaks up the family.  Roy travels to Toronto leaving Sara behind until he is able to bring the family  together again.
SARA, a Canadian Saga  is a story that appeals to all ages.  Sara and Roy hold up a mirror and ask the reader to recognize truth about the human condition for many Canadian families through difficult economic times.
We witness love that does not come neatly wrapped and experience the quiet, sometimes desperate, drama of lives unfolding.

Here is some feedback from readers of SARA.

"Your well-written  book brought memories of actual places and people to me.  I was a child growing up on Prince Edward Island in the dirty thirties." K. Austin

"I've read your book already and loved the story. It reminded me of the stories my parents and grandparents used to relate about the 20's and 30's, Your story will sell very well with the older audience and educate the younger ones.  They were not easy days for anyone." Judy Donovan-McDonald.

"I received SARA on Tuesday and cóuldn't wait to read it.  I couldn't put it down.  I really enjoyed the story especially the streets in Toronto.  It brought back a lot of memories.  It is good for the soul to remember the past.  Could that be why we call them the good old days?  Looking forward to a sequel.   Maureen Jones-Motchan.

"I truly enjoyed reading SARA.  At times I laughed and at other times I felt tears welling up.  It was such a good story, well written and I loved it." Eleanor Lambert.

I just finished reading "Sara."
I took the book to work with me where I was teaching a grade 7 class.  The children were directed to write about a time when they or someone they knew, demonstrated perseverance.  I held up the book and used "Sara" as an example of a woman who demonstrated perseverance.  I also spoke to the fact that the author demonstrated this quality in her determination to have her story published.  You would not believe the response from these kids - many wanted to know if they could get it at Chapters.  This story is uniquely Canadian and should be marketed to adolescents as part of their Canadian heritage.  "Sara" is a narrative that figures in the histories of Canadian families everywhere.  I will be passing this on to my son!
The line that cracked me up and drew me in for good:
"Their mother set the steaming bowls of vegetables in the centre of the large, old, wooden table that no amount of wax and polish could dignify." (p. 11)
I won't over-analyze why this struck me as hilarious, it just did.  What sad, sad state Rebecca was in over her table.    This table is a silent witness to generations of love, hope, fear, strife, courage, ignorance and finally, understanding. What a beautiful metaphor for an old scratched up, banged around history that none of us can escape and our fear of endlessly repeating it.
Thank-you for inviting us to the table.
Karen.

This is  just a taste of the amazing feedback I have received from some readers of SARA.    Cover design by Yuneekpix.com

Can't resist a dare.......even if it's my own ..........

Today I went out to play.......and I actually did make my snow angel........

Don't believe me?

Check out the photos.........now if I can do it, you can do it!  Double-dog dare ya!   lol

Hate to admit it but the hard part was getting up again...........This is the first snow angel I have made since I was maybe 12 years old.  And today it was just as much fun, maybe even more, than it was all those years ago.

See the snow ........

When I was a child I remember my brothers, sisters and I waking up on a morning such as this one and shouting, "Oh, see the snow!  Look at the snow!"

We would be so excited and anxious to finish our breakfast to get outside to play with our sleighs, toboggan or ice skates.  Or sometimes we would want to build a snowman, a snow fort, an ice slide, or just plonk ourselves down in the snow to create snow angels

There was no end to the winter fun activities........and  I remember Mom would have the warm oven's  door open in the kitchen ready to hang up all our snow encrusted mittens when we returned home  from our winter adventures at lunch time.

Today I look out my window........the light snowfall is beautiful.

And then, though I don't welcome the thoughts, they worm their way into my brain......need to shovel the driveway; need to clear the steps;  need to keep a dog run clear for our little Jack Russell; hope the roads aren't icey; hope I don't need to drive anywhere today..........  and on ....and on ....and on...........

Wonder what the neighbours would have to say if I bundled myself up in warm clothing, hat, scarf and mitts and went out into the backyard, plunked myself down in the snow and created an angel.........

It's a thrilling, adventurous thought........

I think I will do it.

And I dare you to make your own snow angel ...........Will you?

Interesting things..........

I promised myself I would post something on this blog each day.  There are days like today when I cannot think of anything to say that I think will be of great interest.

Except,  of course, we will be setting up our Elliot Lake Writers' Workshop  tables tomorrow for the Arts & Culture Trade Show which is taking place Saturday, January 22nd.   If any ELWW member is  able to help by hosting the table for part of your Saturday it will be much appreciated.

And except for the fact that we bought our tickets today for "More to Life" happening Friday February 18th at The Place.

And except for the fact that orders for REAWAKENING  came in today and have left me with only four copies to sell.  Amen!

Hmmm, so maybe interesting things did take place today after all.

OAC Grant Application..........

The Ontario Arts Council Grant Application is on its way to Toronto.   It is sent along with the whisper of a prayer.  Your positive thoughts and prayers are invited to keep it company throughout its travels during which time it will be reviewed by a myriad of judges.

Four months is a long time to wait for the decision of the Arts Council.

I trust their decision will be in favour of Elliot Lake Writers' Workshop in order that we can pursue and achieve our autumn goal.

Sustaining Positive Energy....from my Focus website

The following are words that I wrote a long time ago on my Focus website.  If this holds your interest perhaps you will be interested in checking out By Appointment Only.

As spiritual beings we are vehicles of light positive energy.
As spiritual beings having a human experience
we are containers of energy.
We release this energy through
E-Motion which is "Energy is Motion"
To sustain positive energy
it is essential that we keep the energy flowing
in a smooth, steady and harmonious way.
When we repress our emotions
the energy becomes blocked
and this emotional blockage will result in physical dis-ease.
Energy does not die; cannot be killed or destroyed.
By repressing an E-motion such as "anger"
within our body we will manifest "depression"
which is "anger turned inward".
In your mind's eye imagine you are sitting on a chair,
beside you on the floor there is a bucket filled with water.
Floating on top of the water there is a rubber ball.
Imagine this rubber ball is your "anger".
See yourself placing your hand on the ball forcing it under the water.
Keep the ball submerged, do not allow it to rise and float to the surface of the water.
After an hour your arm will be very tired.
After a day your arm will be numb.
After a week you will be exhausted.
Continue this for much longer and the pressure will be such
that you will stop trying to keep the ball submerged in the water.
You will let it go.
So much pressure will have built up by this time that the ball will fly across the room.
When you repress your "anger" just as you submerged the rubber ball,
it, too, like the ball will not forever withstand the pressure
and your anger will explode in a rage.
Getting in touch with your anger, finding "safe" ways to release it, is essential.
AND THIS IS TRUE OF ALL E-MOTIONS
To sustain positive energy...we must sustain an emotional balance.
This emotional balance will manifest in a physical balance.
When one's body, mind and spirit are in harmony
this sustained positive energy
manifests in a positive life experience.
for more info on energy balance please visit
"EMOTIONAL HEALING"
which is found in my website "Dancing in the Light"
SUSTAINING POSITIVE ENERGY IS SOMETHING THAT IS
WITHIN THE REALM OF POSSIBILITY
Have you ever asked yourself the question, "What is a thought?"
If I said to you a "thought" is energy would you believe me?
TO SUSTAIN POSITIVE ENERGY WE MUST SUSTAIN
POSITIVE THOUGHTS!
It is my personal knowing that God answers every prayer.
This is why I choose AFFIRMATIVE PRAYER.
If I affirm "I am sustaining positive energy"
Then God replies, "okay, you are sustaining positive energy."
If I pray, "I need to sustain positive energy"
Then God replies, "okay, I will allow you to need."
TO SUSTAIN POSITIVE ENERGY
BEGIN BY
AFFIRMING POSITIVE ENERGY
In order to allow the free-flowing of our E-motion
we need first of all
to be in touch with our feelings.
If we deny and repress our E-motions we will become
emotionally & eventually physically ill.
If we allow our E-motions to explode
because we have become exhausted repressing them
we will only succeed in hurting ourselves
and in the process we will hurt others.
THERE IS A HARMONIOUS ALTERNATIVE
Get in touch with your feelings.
Listen to them.
They are trying to teach you something about yourself.
TO SUSTAIN POSITIVE ENERGY
Safely Discover the "Power of One"
One who has experienced within the marriage of body, mind and spirit
is a spiritual being, a vehicle of light, an instrument of
Positive Loving Energy
which will flow evenly
which will shine brightly
throughout the chosen human experience
in any and all life situations.
Sometimes it helps, as we are exploring within,
to reach out for guidance, support and love along the path.
If you need help discovering and sustaining the positive energy that is
within you
SEEK HELP
from a professional counsellor, facilitator, therapist.
Your body is the home of your soul.
And sometimes within this home
it is necessary to do some serious housekeeping;
throw away that which is no longer serving good purpose;
re-arrange things to allow quiet spaces and room to grow;
find the treasures that may be hiding in a corner in the basement;
shine the light on them
and
bring them upstairs where they can be seen, experienced and enjoyed.
It has been said by a very wise master,
"Seek and ye shall find"
You will know when you are sustaining positive energy.
You will become aware of increased synchronicity in your life.
You will know your needs are met.
You will go with the flow of life in peace.
You will have discovered the "Power of One"
and your "light" will shine
just like the Son.

Sunday sunshine........

It is a cold but beautiful, bright and sunny day in Elliot Lake.   My dog days are coming to a close as Mrs. Biggles will be on her way home tomorrow night when her family arrives home from its Mexican vacation.   Dudley will not be sorry to see Bigsy leave but I give the old man credit for his display of tolerance all week.

Looking forward to another evening with members of Elliot Lake Writers' Workshop tomorrow night.  Our monthly meetings on the third Monday of each month are always a pleasure and always such fun thanks to Hilda, our wonderful artistic leader.

New members are always welcome.

Focus on Three

The following was written by me more than 10 years ago on New Year's Eve, 2000.

FOCUS on number "3"--sounds a bit like a return to Sesame Street, doesn't it?
In previous websites I have had problems keeping focused on a specific topic.
Voice in the Stillness  intended to be a site focused on women's issues somehow turned itself into a travel site.
My original Homestead site "Cally's Home Page" took on a life of its own and ended up Dancing in the Light.
My first Xoom site couldn't even remain Xoom...not my idea but it turned into an Nbci site.   In my humble opinion the best of my websites so far because it garnered the most support and creative contributions from friends.....but alas, it takes forever to download (but worth the wait) and in truth it couldn't decide what to focus on either.
It is New Year's Eve, 2000.    It's just past 10 pm here in Elliot Lake, Ontario, Canada.   One of  my New Year's resolutions is to improve my ability to focus.
For this reason this, my THIRD Homestead site is called "focus".
I chose the angels as the background for this homepage in the hope that they will help me to stay focused and have this page completed before 2001.
Actually I "borrowed" the angel background from my friend Frankie's beautiful New Year's page on her site Sunshine and Roses.  (no longer an active site).   She and I made a deal a couple of websites back that we could "borrow" from each other whenever we wanted ..........I think I've been a bigger borrower than my dear friend though.
I told Frankie I was calling this new site FOCUS.   I also told her I had no idea what the site would focus on.  She is a brilliant woman and assured me that as long as I kept a focus on one topic per page that would be good enough.  So far I don't seem to be achieving that goal.    But it's still the year 2000.   I have an hour and a half left before I need to start keeping my resolve.
I hope this isn't boring you.......what I am doing is rambling and I remember my mom telling me it's okay to ramble as long as it isn't inflicted on others.     I'm feeling quite alone here with these beautiful angels so if there is future infliction of boredom through the reading, just cursor down to the bottom of the page where eventually it will say "Next Page" or something similar and you will be free of my rambling and onto a focused page because whatever that page will be, it will be my first in the year 2001 and the resolution will be in full effect.
I am supposed to be focused on the NUMBER  "3".  '

Third Homestead site for me........that's a three.
And did you notice that the lovely angels are in rows of three?
Countdown to 2001.......which in numerology is a three.
THREE  is a perfect number.........perfect balance in the triangle.
Father, Son, Holy Ghost...........guess we could call this the BIG three.
Body, Mind, Spirit........some would say this one ranks right up there near the BIG three.
2001 is the beginning of the THIRD millenium....if our calendar is accurate.
And I'm told that Three wise men saw the Star of Bethlehem long ago.
Three blind mice ....a vicious little song we sing to our children to give them an early introduction to and preparation for the violence in our world.
I had a dream   several years ago that has never left me.      I believe in dreams.   I believe dreams are God's forgotten language and should be listened to and followed.  This dream was about "Three" ...... three triangles, three crosses one within each triangle; there were three "5's" and I was told these were for David.  The dream was about ascension and led me to delve into sacred geometrics; numerology, deeper into metaphysics, symbolism and the knowledge of the Merkaba.
I believe in this dream and I have been following it for years.......amazing where this dream has led me.   Because of this dream I've had conversations with people about topics that  I had never heard of prior to the dream.
Yet I still have no understanding of this dream........at least no clear understanding.........but to me it is a very important "Three".
I believe one day I will meet someone somewhere who will hold the key to the mystery still surrounding this dream.   Maybe that someone has been drawn by these angels to this web page and will send me an enlightening email.
Stranger things than this have happened in my life.....all things are possible.
Focusing on THREE.
Have you ever noticed that things happen in three's?
If someone has an accident, you can bet someone will wait for the next and  finally the third before they relax knowing it wasn't their time to have an accident or an illness or a catastrophe of some sort......I always wondered why we lose the faith in THREE when we hear about good things happening. '
When we start a race we always say "One, two, three........GO"   Why don't we say one, two,Go or one, two, three, four, GO.    I think it had to be THREE because 3 is the perfect number and why would we want to start something with anything less than a perfect intention.
Of course some people don't like the number THREE..........
It is said that Three's a crowd.
Clumsy dancers have three feet, two on the left; at least that's  their excuse.
Most people in the western world eat THREE meals a day.......good or bad?  I don't know.....I'm not judging.......I'm trying to keep my FOCUS on THREE.
In the THIRD world they would think one good meal a day was pretty satisfying...I imagine they would be delighted with three........'
In human development the age of THREE is called the "WHY" stage.......
"WHY" is a three letter word that leads a child to greater knowledge in a healthy home..........
Of course in some homes "WHY" leads a  persistent child to a spanking by a tired mom who had only three hours sleep and is too tired to answer the child even if she did know the answer......
This  attempt of mine to focus on THREE is the second page of this new website.
I'm thinking that should make those of you who have had the patience to stay with me and read what I've rambled on about feel good.

   WHY?
Well, of course , because the next page will be page THREE..........it's bound to be focused on something more interesting.
I will stop rambling now.........I have only 20 minutes left until 2001 and I still have THREE things to do here.......add some music, link to the home page and most important of all wish you THREE great things  in the peaceful third millenium.
I wish you  freedom, faith and focus .........Audrey :-)

Does my dream hold  any significance for you? Check out my  Focus Website  And you will find more about this dream and 5.55 on Pearls of Promise website.
